This may be an expanation for Sanjaya’s wierd and wonderful hairdon’ts over the course of America Idol.  The National Enquirer has broke the story that Sanjaya’s mother was arrested in Pierce County back in February of 2005.  The Sherrif’s department found 310 marijuana plants in the family’s garage with sister, Shymali keeping watch over the precious plants with a bag of weed for company and ’smoking devices’.  Shymali who was then arrested the possession, sent the police over to yet another growing facility nearby where Sanjay’s mother and his step-dad were subsequently arrested. 

Sanjaya’s mom pled guilty to one felony count of unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance and so got off with a 30 day sentence instead of the maximum 5 year prison term.

Sanjay was at the White House Correspondent’s Association Dinner last night as a guest of People (not sure how People Magazine qualify as White House Correspondents though)

Sanjaya Malakar’s hair-raising adventure isn’t over yet. The recently dispatched American Idol contestant is now headed for the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

Malakar, 17, finally voted off the show Wednesday night after weeks of debate over his locks and singing chops, will be one of PEOPLE’s guests at the Saturday night event at the Washington Hilton.

Petra Nemcova is obviously a Fangina as she has no problem getting her picture taken with the Idol cast off as he sucks dry the last 20 seconds of his 15 minutes of fame.  Who knows though, by the end of next year he could have his own hairdressing line out, five top 10 singles and a grammy award winning album but I doubt it.  I’m feeling cynical today.

It’s the end of an era, Sanjaya and his hair have left the American Idol building. 

So it finally happened: Despite the valiant efforts of Fanjayas and ruckus-causers across the country, the 17-year-old was sent packing.

Based on the response in the auditorium — insane hoots and hollers of joy when Ryan revealed that LaKisha was staying while Sanjaya was leaving — this momentous occasion happened not a minute too soon.

Simon had hinted earlier on that he thought Sanjay’s number might be up:

When Seacrest asked the judges for their comments on the bottom three, Cowell, who had labeled Sanjaya’s Tuesday performance as “utterly horrendous,” said with a Cheshire cat grin, “I’m beginning to sense something here.”

After what he said was a record top-seven vote of 38 million, Seacrest told Lewis to rejoin the rest of the gang and then informed Sanjaya that he’d reached the end of the road. The 17-year-old singer, who had become an internet phenomenon and had given the show tremendous buzz during a season that many have said contains the weakest crop of singers to date (see “10 Reasons (Besides Howard Stern) Why Sanjaya’s Still On ‘Idol’ “), flashed another of his signature ear-to-ear smiles and gave Jones an extended hug.

 “I’m fine,” he told Seacrest. “It was an amazing experience.” As he watched his going-away montage, Sanjaya broke into tears, ending his improbable run with another warbly rendition of the Raitt song.

But in the classic Sanjaya fashion fans came to love, the camera-savvy finalist overcame his weak vocals by giving people one last thing to talk about. In a tip of the hat to the fascination with his ever-changing hairdos, Sanjaya ad-libbed a line and sang, “Let’s give them something to talk about … other than hair.”

“I can promise you: We won’t soon forget you,” Seacrest said.

I had no intention of posting anything about American Idol because if you’re a junkie there’s plenty of Idolcentric blogs to cater for your addiction but then I saw this.  You just know mentor Gwen wanted to put a hit out on him after this.  Michael K reported yesterday  that Gwen didn’t want him singing any No Doubt songs because she didn’t think he could pull it off.  I don’t think anyone was able to notice with the shaking of the hair, I was mesmerised.

Here’s what Randy, Paula and Simon thought:

• Randy said, “Dude, I’m speechless. Every time. It’s weird, you got the dog speechless. The hair is definitely interesting. I like the kinda mohawk look. At the end of the song, you sang that one long note at the end and you sang a little run. You actually can sing if you just put it out there.”
• Paula said, “If you had the gumption. If you had the ability to totally go for it, it would fit the wackiness of the fauxhawk. To watch you on stage and not go for it, we’re kinda like come on, you can do it.
• Simon said, “I presume there was no mirror in your dressing room tonight. I don’t think it matters anymore what we say. I genuinely don’t. You’re in your own universe and if people like you, then good luck
