GQ’s Annual Gentleman’s Ball

Last night, GQ VP & publisher Chris Mitchell and The Gentlemen’s Fund held the 5th annual Gentlemen’s Ball to recognize men who are making positive contributions to the world through support and dedication to causes that matter to them. The event, which was hosted by former New York Giant and co-host of ABC’s LIVE with Kelly and Michael, Michael Strahan, raised more than $200,000 for charity and honored the following celebrity ambassadors for their work:

Ted Danson

Ted Danson in support of Oceana. Ted has been a vocal and impassioned leader for ocean advocacy for more than two decades, having shared his message everywhere from the halls of Congress to the pages of this magazine. Presented by Nautica.

Adam Levine in support of The Teen Impact Program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Along with his Maroon 5 bandmates, Levine has been a passionate supporter of the program since 2006 and has helped raise more than $300,000 for the grant and donor-funded program, including donating a signed guitar thatwill be auctioned off on GQ.com. Presented by LG.

Kellan Lutz in support of SavingInnocence. Sex trafficking is a reality for far too many in our own country, and hundreds of thousands of children are at risk annually. To combat this, humanitarian-minded men like Kellan Lutz are stepping up on behalf ofSaving Innocence’s vision.

Shaun White in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. As a St. Jude ally, White does it all, from designing a game room for long-term patients at the Target House facility to starring in commercials that raise money and awareness.

Additionally, the GQ Advisory Panel, composed of leading personalities in the fields of media and philanthropy, nominated five Leader Award winners, sponsored by Movado. The panel selected the following individuals based on their charitable work, volunteerism, and community involvement:

Panel member Charles Best, founder and CEO of DonorsChoose.org, selected James Walter Doyle, a teacher at Thurgood Marshall Academy, for bringing fitness education, literature circles, film studies, and a technology elective to the school while ensuring that every student has his or her own personal copy of each book studied in Doyle’s English course.

Panel member Willie Geist, co-host of NBC’s Today show and Operation Mend supporter, selected Corporal Aaron Mankin, who served as a Marine combat correspondent during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. As the result of a roadside bomb attack, six Marines lost their lives and Mankin lost hisface. But not his voice. He became the first patient of a new program at UCLA’s Ronald Reagan Medical Center called Operation Mend, designed to heal the wounds of war. Today, Aaron continues to be an active spokesman for the organization.

Panel member JJ Ramberg, host of MSNBC’s Your Business and founder of GoodSearch.org, selected Rob Gitin, founder and executive director of At The Crossroads. Through a combination of outreach, empowerment, and guidance, At The Crossroads reaches out to homeless youths and young adults at their point of need and works with them to build healthy and fulfilling lives.

Panel member Anthony K. Shriver, founder and chairman of Best Buddies International, selected Charles Calhoun, ambassador, Best Buddies International. A longtime member of the Best Buddies chapters in Phoenix, Arizona, Charles really started making waves in 2010 as a member of an elite group of ambassadors focusing on leadership and public-speaking skills.

Panel member Jake Wood, co-founder of Team Rubicon, selected Matt Pelak, a Team Rubicon volunteer. Matt has selflessly volunteered for Team Rubicon for over two years and was the critical driver behind the organization’s movement into domestic disaster-response operations, which has dramaticallyincreased TR’s ability to involve more veterans in programs.

The Leader Award winners attended as guests of Movado and received a Movado Museum® Sport Chronograph watch and $6,000 donated to the charities of their choice. Celebrity ambassadors and GQ Advisory Panel members also received Movado timepieces.

Guests included: Ted Danson, Adam Levine, Kellan Lutz, Michael Strahan, Shaun White, GQ vice president and publisher Chris Mitchell, GQ editor-in-chief Jim Nelson, and GQ creative director Jim Moore, as well as NBC Today Show co-host Willie Geist, Anne Heche, Maroon 5’s Mickey Madden, PJ Morton & James Valentine, Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos, and actor James Tupper.
