Launch of world’s first themed interest web TV service
The Swedish and UK based web-TV company factualTV introduces the first global television service solely focused on TV programs within specific subject areas carrying great commercial potential. The company currently has global licenses for more than 2,500 titles of factual and lifestyle programs and documentaries.
factualTV’s concept is to identify specific subjects within factual television where commercial potential exists for both viewers and advertisers. Based on this, factualTV will create thematic sections only containing programs within the specific area. Examples of some of these sections are UFO, Pets, Adventure and World War II.
- We are following the trend within traditional television towards ever more niched channels. We take this one step further by introducing specific thematic sections within our service FactualTV. These sections are marketed internationally over the Internet to the respective target groups, says Daniel Hill, CEO of factualTV.
Another reason why factualTV focuses on factual television programs is to optimize the possibilities for subject search, which is the natural behavior of online users. The users can easily find factual television programs within their specific topic of interest through search engines or directly at www.factualtv.com.
- Our focus on niche subjects creates an attractive environment for advertisers and a simple method of marketing sections or channels towards interested target groups. For example, factualTV makes it possible to market its own adventure section to adventure sites, and create partner alliances with on-line magazines based on some or all of our content, says Daniel Hill.
factualTV strives for simplicity in its service, which is completely web-based. This means the user is not required to download any software to watch a TV program.
- It’s easy for a visitor to get started without any prior knowledge of how factualTV works. The user can access the webpage and start watching programs immediately, says Daniel Hill.
factualTV, now launching its Beta version, is already the world’s largest pure factual television service with more than 2,500 titles and global license agreements with over 20 international distribution and production companies, and television channels.
- Today’s Beta version will continue to be developed. A full-scale version, with subject related sections will be launched in the beginning of 2009, Daniel Hill explains.
factualTV is financed by private equity and supported by investors from Scandinavia and other countries. The largest shareholder and co-founder is Anders Palm, media producer and businessman based in the UK.
