A.L.KENNEDY WINS THE COSTA BOOK AWARDS 2007

Last night, novelist and comedian Alison Kennedy won the £25,000 Costa Book of the Year Award.

The author, who writes under the name A.L Kennedy, won with her fifth novel, ‘Day’, about Alfred Day, a psychologically damaged RAF gunner who returns to Germany in 1949, where he had been a prisoner of war, hoping to slay his demons.

This year’s Awards attracted 553 entries, including a record number of submissions in both the novel and children’s categories. The judging panel included famous faces such as Alex James, Joanna Trollope (Chair), Dylan Jones, Helen Lederer and Emily Maitlis. The awards ceremony was presented by journalist and broadcaster Mariella Frostrup.

Amongst the crowd at this Award ceremony was Erin O’Connor, Simon Mayo and Jane Asher just to name a few. It was a great celebration that saw a real appreciation for quality books.

Congrtulations to Kennedy! I really admire him enormously! I read the novel, Alfie Day’s personality or character caught my eye a lot. Yeah, I found it really fantastic! I think anyone who does not read the novel can have a look:
