David Beckham Named No1

AskMen.com, the Internet’s #1 men’s lifestyle site, today unveiled its annual list of the Top 49 Men. AskMen.com readers were asked to select men who best exemplify a true “man’s man.” After more than one million votes were tallied over the past 30 days, the stylish soccer phenom David Beckham ranked No.1 on the list, which can now be viewed at http://www.AskMen.com

Screen actor Matt Damon was the Top 49 runner-up, followed by Timbaland, the music producer extraordinaire. The rest of the top 10, in order, are: tennis star Roger Federer, musician and actor Justin Timberlake, actor Daniel Craig, tech mogul Steve Jobs, actor George Clooney, Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton and actor Christian Bale. The complete list, including profiles on each honoree is available for viewing at http://www.askmen.com/specials/2007_top_49/

“The annual Top 49 Men list provides a window into the collective mind of our readers and gives them a voice to proclaim who they care about most,” says James Bassil, Editor-in-Chief of AskMen.com. “The Top 49 list is unique among celebrity rankings in that it is created by our AskMen.com readers, rather than a stable of editors. This allows us to get a true sense of today’s most respected male role models across industries such as entertainment, sports and technology.”

The Top 49 list is an alternative to the common “Most Beautiful” and “Sexiest” lists as it’s determined by the general public, not an editorial staff. AskMen.com polled its own readers to initiate the annual list by asking them to nominate 100 “ambassadors of male-kind.” Readers were encouraged to look beyond surface attributes like good looks, wealth and fame, to focus on qualities that make a man truly admirable. After a month-long voting period, readers selected their Top 49 finalists.

An annual survey of its readers, the second-annual Top 49 Men list follows in the footsteps of AskMen.com’s widely popular Top 99 Most Desirable Women list, a yearly roundup that debuted in 2001. In January of 2007, Beyonce was named the year’s Most Desirable Woman by AskMen.com readers.
