The Secret vs The Phenomenon
As children we often used to play a game where we would match-up two super heros and discuss who would win in a fight to the death.
Superman vs Spider man was a personal favourite.
By the way… anyone who thinks Spider man would win… is an idiot!
Another popular one was Robocop vs The Terminator
This one is a little trickier.
My mother liked to call these displays of comic geekdom a “wasted youth”, but little did she know that these comparison skills and techniques would one day become vital to comparing two of the biggest and potentially most life changing products of the year.
For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past few months, The Secret is a DVD that has inspired and changed lives all around the world. (Thanks in no small part to the help of celebs like Oprah and The Oprah Winfrey Show)
But now there is a challenger to it’s throne, it goes by the name “The Phenomenon”, both of these names could be Super Heroes, so let’s find out which would win in a battle to the death…
If the Secret was a superhero, there is no doubt that it’s main skill would be Thought control. Simply using the mind to make things happen. The Phenomenon on the other hand would most likely be a strong, Hunk of a man, who would prefer to reply on physical actions as opposed to just Thought control - afterall THOUGHT without ACTION is almost worthless.
Dan Kennedy - The “Guru” behind the THE PHENOMENON™ claims that this DVD helps entrepreneurs, business owners, people starting new businesses, sales professionals and people from every walk of life and background attract more opportunity and co-operation… erase more obstacles… create more income and wealth… and achieve more important (even ’secret’) goals in just 12 months than in the previous 12 years combined. And this is NOT about “thoughts.” It is about what to DO… and exactly HOW to do it!
The Secret helped Make Mainstream Celebrities of people like: John Assaraf, Dr. Rev. Michael Beckwith, Dr. John Demartini, Bob Proctor, Jack Canfield, James Arthur Ray, Dr. Joe Vitale, Lisa Nichols, Marie Diamond, Dr. John Gray, Dr. Denis Waitley, Neale Donald Walsch, and Dr. Fred Alan Wolf. (OK, one or two of these may have already been household names - but no doubt, THE SECRET has allowed many Gurus “stardom” they could have only dreamed of prior to THE SECRET.)
The question now is - Will the “stars” of The Phenomenon , such as Yanik Silver, Andrew Lock, Ron LeGrand, Lee Milteer, Bill Glazer, Lloyd Irwin, Ron Ipach, Bill Harrison, Rory Fatt, Tim Winders, Scott Tucker, Ed O’Keefe, Stephen Snyder, Jim Canale, Gene Kelley, Alexandria Brown, Tim Winders, Jim Gillespie, Ben Altadonna, Steve Harrison, Rob Minton, Michael Miget, Ron Caruthers, Brian Sacks and Ryan Lee “enjoy” similar Mainstream Celebrity Status in the months and years ahead.

The Secret (and perhaps The Phenomenon) is the latest and by far the worst example of a HIGHLY profitable trend where self-help gurus with fabricated new age titles and little relevant education, credentials or legitimate expertise brainwash us into believing that they know what is best for us, our marriages and our families.
Often their only contribution to society is introducing some exotic sounding, new age philosophy. However, they often cleverly form an incestuous group of like-minded “experts” who cross-promote each other by swearing their success is due to following the beliefs of another member of their “cult!” All the while, they ply the airwaves jockeying for an ever-larger audience by appearing in the national media to garner third-party endorsements.
The Self-Help Movement has become the Self-Destruct Movement by diminishing or destroying our critical thinking skills to choose and evolve on our own. We have given up the freedom to build healthy lives, marriages and families based on our unique history and life experience. Instead many victims, blinded to the value of their own life experiences, are attracted to the latest secret in self-help, in an attempt to find out what they should think, feel and how they should act… this is the definition of a cult.
The solution is a return to our (common) senses! The best way out of this learned “self-helplessness” is to go cold turkey. Stop following ALL self-help gurus now. Begin, instead, to reclaim your natural, God-given ability to think for yourself. The common sense that was once readily available to all of us is still there free of charge and waiting to be applied to just about any challenge we might face in life… all you have to do is use it.
Please, let’s all work together to stop the flock of “sheepeople” who blindly move from one UNPROVEN concept to the next, looking for the answers to life’s challenges that you already possess and that is the OBVIOUS!
What will The Phenomenon do to differentiate itself from the digital snake oil???

John,
I appreciate what you are saying, but I feel you are a little off the mark in this instance.
To apply the “digital snake oil salesman” tag to an entire industry shows a little naivety.
I have met a lot of people who fit your description, and they make my blood boil, but I have also met people like Yanik Silver and Andrew Locke, who are both involved in this project, and I can safely vouch for them as people and for the vast majority of their products.
What’s more, I have personally learned from some of these people, and I have benefited hugely from their lessons.

John,
You raise a valid point overall, there’s no question that there’s plenty of bad products out there right now, but it’s unfair to cast all of them in the same mould.
Suppose that a guy calls at your home claiming to represent the gas company, so you let him in, and he rips you off, stealing from your home. Does that mean that there aren’t genuine representatives from the gas and electricity companies? Of course not. It’s the same with business. Every so often someone or some product comes along and makes claims that turn out not to be true. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of other products that do provide good value.
I’ve met Dan Kennedy, Yanik Silver, Andrew Lock, and Ryan Lee on different occasions, and they all provided me with tips for my business that I applied, and that have made me a lot of money. Actually, I found them to be far more generous with their time than I expected.
I think the real difference with a movie like the phenomenon is doers and non-doers. The easiest course of action is always to do nothing and criticize the product. It’s far more complicated to get off your butt and do something!
I saw The Phenomenon this morning online and there’s plenty of action points, in fact every 2 or 3 mins throughout, you’ll see powerpoint style graphics that sum up the lessons from each presenter in the movie.
For me, there’s no comparison between the secret and The Phenomenon DVD - I DO believe in positive thinking, but I DON’T believe that you can ask the universe for anything you want. Positive thinking doesn’t pay the bills, does it?
By comparison, I really enjoyed The Phenomenon, I took 3 pages of notes of the action points, which says a lot. It’s full of ‘do this, then do this’ steps which is exactly what the secret lacked.
Ultimately of course, there’ll be plenty of naysayers on both sides, while those that apply lessons from both The Secret AND The Phenomenon will continue to profit!

I hope The Phenomenon will reach a lot of people because it’s sorely needed. As I understand it, all of the participants were already successful in various industries like auto repair, chiropractic, dentists, eBay, selling on the internet etc. They’ve now got together to share that knowledge.
I’m sure they have something good to share, and I’ll be listening. I don’t begrudge them making money off this if I benefit from their insights.

What d’ya know…. It’s another very generic comment from John Curtis. This guy loves to find blog posts that feature the Secret (or something similar) and then throw up his hasty dismissal comment. I’m not so fond of blog spammers like this and am on a mission to point out his presence across the web…

@John,
While you have point there. I do believe this “Self Destruct Movement” as you call it has helped a lot of people. Not only that. It has helped a lot of people HELP OTHER PEOPLE and I will not bother to elaborate. And I guess you spend a lot of time copying and pasting this same comment to other people’s blogs who are sharing what they found out with these so called “Self Destruct Movement”. But for ME, I choose to use the positive things of what I am learning so that I achieve my GOALS in life. So that I can Bless Others as God as mandated me to do so.
Cheers!
