Just when we thought the gansta genre was dead and buried, Brian DePalma has announced his intentions to direct a new Untouchables movie. According to MTV News the prequel to the 1987 blockbuster movie the Untouchables, is a go.
MTV News confirmed that Nicolas Cage is set to play the notorius Chicago crime boss, Al Capone, in “The Untouchables:Capone Rising”. The movie will focus on the dealings between the Al Capone and Irish cop Jimmy Malone ( formerly played by Sean Connery) in the prequel. Rumors as to who will play Jimmy Malone have already begun. Colin Farrell and Sean Penn are among those mentioned in the rumor mill to play the lead detective.
Okay, quick question. Who wants to see this movie? Don’t get me wrong the Untouchables was an incredible movie, but is there a need for a prequel? The best thing about this potentially future movie flop is that Irish cutie, Colin Farrell, might get the part as Jimmy Malone. ( I am SURE this will be a big acting stretch for him). I really hope that Cage, Farrell, Penn, and DePalma end up bailing on the project. I just don’t think this movie can work. It will, however, be a hoot to see Nicolas Cage try to act cool and gansta with his ridiculous southern accent and long, mildly unattractive, blank face. Who knew ganstas could be soooo boring.
Note to Mr. Farrell: Save yourself…DON’T DO IT!!!!!!!!
