Tom Cruise brought along Katie last night (can you feel her pain through her gritted fake smile?) to the NYC Rescue Workers Detoxification Project Benefit Gala at the Altman building in NYC last night. Which sounds innocuous enought until you realise it’s a Scientology fundraising event to raise money in order to ‘detox’ Ground Zero workers:
“It is an injustice that after six years people who were down there are still suffering,” Cruise told about 200 well-dressed guests who paid up to $100,000 for a table of eight at the gala.
The money goes toward the New York Rescue Workers Detoxification Project, of which Tom himself was a co-founder in 2002:
The 30-day program, based on Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard’s principles, offers free treatment to cops, firefighters and paramedics who believe they developed breathing difficulties and other ailments after working at Ground Zero.
Participants receive vitamins, including high doses of niacin to release fatty acids into the bloodstream, and nutritional counseling. They also complete daily exercise regimens and sit in saunas as hot as 180 degrees.
Some medical experts have discredited the detox programme but the president of the FDNY Uniformed EMTs and Paramedics union said most of the members who have undergone the programme, “have reported an improvement in their quality of life.”
Sure they have, they’ve been brainwashed by those crazy Zenon loving peeps, soon they’ll be singing J-Lo songs, watching re-runs of Mission Impossible 3 and attending the premiere of Katie’s next movie, Mad Money.

I think it’s disgusting that he is being attacked for this. Look at the statistics of how those who have done the programmed have been helped. THEY stated that they are better. I don’t see the U.S. government doing anything this constructive to help them. Giving them some drugs to numb the pain maybe, but no solution to get the toxins in the body out.
