The break up of what was expected to be the future King and Queen of Britian took the nation by surprise but also gave the Sunday tabloids in Britain something to get their teeth into. All of course claim to have the exclusive but here’s just a taste:

“It’s Just Not Fun Any More” - what Wills told Kate before he dumped her
William told a friend: “I’m too young for all this. I’m just doing what normal 24-year-old blokes do. I don’t need to be nailed down. All the fun has gone out of it.” Another confidant said: “His view is that since his mother’s death, life is for living and anything can happen. He is a very clinical young man. He seems to listen to advice and then does what he wants.”
Yet it was a showdown forced by Miss Middleton three weeks ago that triggered the decision to end it once and for all. Following William’s high-profile partying last month, she sought “assurances” from him - and was left desperately upset when they were not forthcoming. “Until then she had never pressed William about it,’ explained a source. “This was not really an ultimatum, more a test. “She just wanted to know where she stood, to clarify her position. William responded by saying he was not ready for marriage - and then the whole thing collapsed.” It is understood that William waited until after he had consulted Prince Charles, the Queen and Prince Philip before he told 25-year-old Miss Middleton their relationship was over.

PRINCE William’s five-year romance with Kate Middleton was dramatically killed off at a secret royal summit when the Queen said: “Don’t rush down the aisle—we don’t want another Diana.” The final death blow to Wills’ relationship with his university sweetheart was delivered by grandfather Prince Philip. He declared: “You can’t string her along for ever.” “It’s clear the Queen doesn’t want William to go through a carbon copy rerun of his father, marrying the wrong woman.” Staff at Clarence House were told about the split seven days ago. Thursday night Kate—an accessories buyer for fashion chain Jigsaw—shared the news with close friends at a dinner party. A source at the meal told us: “At first when Kate walked in the room it wasn’t apparent there was anything untoward going on.” Halfway through the evening the conversation turned towards relationships and boys and everyone had their say. But as calm as anything, Kate turned round and said she was no longer going out with William. ‘It’s over,’ she said. “Everyone’s jaw just dropped to the table. There was a huge sense of disbelief, nobody could quite take it in. But Kate put on her British stiff upper lip. It was apparent she wasn’t going to break down in tears. In fact she was very calm throughout the whole evening.”
Kate only lives a 20-minute drive away from the base but Wills preferred to watch football on TV rather than see her. One local said: “I saw him in the pub next to the barracks and he was enjoying himself playing pool and watching the Champions League. He just wanted to be one of the boys. “I didn’t even see him check his phone to see if Kate called or left a message.”
Wills’ £11K Booze Binge- Exclusive Wills & Kate 2002-2007: The Fairytale’ Over
PRINCE William racked up a staggering £11,000 bar bill yesterday as he drowned his sorrows after splitting with Kate Middleton. William, aware that news of their separation was about to break, partied until the early hours at the trendy Mahiki club in West London. He and four male pals spent five hours drinking £800 magnums of Dom Perignon champagne and £500 “Treasure Chest” cocktails - and bought scores of drinks for other clubbers. Wills was dragged to the dance floor at 2am by his friends for a sing-a-long of the Rolling Stones’ anthem You Can’t Always Get What You Want. “He started off in high spirits but seemed to hit the wall about 3am. “He was slumped in the corner looking miserable,” said a Mahiki source.Bleary-eyed, Wills finally staggered out of the club at 3.30am - just two hours before news of his split from Kate emerged - with a drinks stain visible on his brown corduroy trousers. He was whisked off back to Clarence House by his security team. Yesterday Clarence House refused to comment publicly, but senior Royal aides confirmed his five-year relationship with Kate had come to an end.
Signs that all was not well began to surface when it was revealed Kate had turned down an invitation from the Queen to spend Christmas with the royals at their Sandringham estate in Norfolk. Instead, she spent the festive season at a rented cottage in Angus in the Scottish countryside with her parents, sister Philippa and younger brother James. William, to everyone’s surprise, did not even visit. A royal aide said: “William had been expected to stay with the Middletons for part of the break. But in the end he said he couldn’t make it. “The truth is he has never got on very well with Kate’s mother Carole and felt he would end up trapped when he could be out partying with his pals” The split has been on the cards since Christmas as William has become increasingly frustrated by the Kate situation.”He felt he was being pressurised to propose and he just wasn’t ready. In the end, he thought it was just fairer all round to end the relationship.”
“He also wasn’t happy when she went to Cheltenham races without him but was pictured with the royal party. He thought it presumptuous. He felt she was pestering him to commit to her, although she never exactly gave him an ultimatum.” On March 4, in an effort to reinvigorate their relationship, the couple went on a skiing holiday with friends to Zermatt in the Swiss Alps. Kate sacrificed a family holiday in Barbados for the trip, knowing how important it was for her to spend some quality time with William. During the week-long break they were spotted kissing and cuddling on the slopes, but friends now say the holiday just “put off the inevitable“. On March 16, William began a two-and-a-half month tank commander course in Bovington, Dorset, and the relationship finally fell apart.
