Will Ferrell’s homo erotic homage to iceskating, Blades of Glory retained the top spot raking in $23 million. However Hilary Swank’s new vehicle, The Reaping failed to pull in the crowds - opening at no. 5 with $10 million. The dire reviews that accompanied it probably didn’t help entice cinema goers, “Hilary Swank is a minister AND a scientist! No, I’m not making this up. Please, stop laughing” and “It’s hard to believe that when God does reap his vengeance that it will be this boring” were among the kinder.
More surprising however was Grindhouse’s poor showing. Despite excellent reviews and Rosie and Rosario almost getting naked on the front cover of Rolling Stones, the Rodriguez/Tarantino flick dubbed ‘the most violent chick flick ever’ only managed to open at number 4 with $11.5 million.
