Supermodel Gisele weighed in on the issue of super skinny models this weekend. The Victoria’s Secret’s Model was in her Native Brazil this week for Fashion Rio, which is in the news for banning models under 16 and requiring proof of good health. This comes in the wake of the tragic death of 21 year old Brazilian model Ana Carolina who died as a result of anorexia. At 5”8 she weighed only 88 pounds. Gisele spoke about anorexia to the Globo newspaper:
“I never suffered from this problem (anorexia) because I had a very strong family base. Parents are responsible, not the fashion industry…Everybody knows that the norm in fashion is thin…But excuse me, there are people born with the right genes for this profession.”
Last October, Chanel’s Karl Lagerfield denied anorexia is a problem in the fashion industry,
“We don’t see anorexic (girls),” he told Reuters. “The girls are skinny. They have skinny bones.”
